For kids with life-threatening medical conditions, a granted wish can make all the difference. This simple, but powerful belief inspired the founding of Make-A-Wish and drives everything that the organization does. Their mission is to grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength, and joy. Beyond the local children, a wish experience can also have a powerful impact on their families, medical teams, and volunteers, as well as local supporters.
Since the inception of the Central and Western North Carolina chapter in 1985, the organization has granted over 4,000 wishes. In fact, in 2017 our local chapter granted the wishes of over 320 children; however, there are an additional 140 children within our community who are still waiting for their wishes to be granted. Since the average wish cost is $6,000, the more money we raise with GUTS, the more wishes we can grant. Last year we raised $48,000, which means the dreams of eight children came true—but we know with your help that number can continue to rise.
